This headline caught my attention. Few celebrities have attained the “it girl” style status like Kendall Jenner. So these “it girl” shoes launched the dad sneaker trend seen in shoe fashion this season.
When I first heard the term “it girl” I thought it was a great description of the modern woman. A new appreciation for being a girl and highlighting femininity at its best with our style and attitude.
The “it girl” is not a new trend at all. It started way back in the times when women were just beginning to gain their independence and shake up the world of fashion.
Here we see the original use of the term “IT Girl” from a British film in the 1920’s. Wikipedia defines the it girl as a woman who has a sex appeal and personality that is especially engaging.
According to the Showbiz Cheat Sheet, the “it girl” is a combination of talent, charisma and opportunity.
Since the beginning of our modern society select women achieve this sense of “it” as icons of their generation.
In our current culture, social media gives every girl a platform to express herself to the world. Women’s fashion trends are easily traceable to celebrities and their daily runway platforms.
Let’s talk more about women’s shoes shall we?
For everything, there is a time and place. Hot heels will always have a section in my closet for those times that we want to take the spotlight.
Sneakers have my heart though. If I can get away with throwing on a comfy pair of tennies and still look like a million bucks, it’s no contest.
I keep thinking back to my retail days when we couldn’t have enough pairs of Puma’s. No matter how careful we could never figure out how to get past the stinky shoe syndrome after a long day.
But they looked and felt so good on my feet!
Two standout shoe trends that have captured my attention are raffia and denim. I’ve been embracing the casual cool denim since the unique texture pairs so well with other materials like the striped linen pants above.
What I love about sneakers is that they can make any outfit have that desired “pop”. I’ve often said about shoes in general, that it almost doesn’t matter what you’re wearing if you have fantastic shoes.
I’m partial to nubuck or suede, sneakers in light or bright colors. This gives any outfit a unique personality.
I’m in love with these Adidas Gazelle gymnastic sneakers in pink. I think we can all agree these will spice up absolutely any outfit and occasion.
And …OMG these Calf Hair Low Top Sneakers. Worth every single penny.
Or these quilted ones.
Fashion week runways sported sneakers in a whimsical way. Key words being neon, chunky, fun.
To summarize, get yourself a fabulous furry, fun pair of sneakers this season.
Pair them (pun intended) with your new best fitness look, slinky satin keyhole dress, oversized flowy boyfriends suit or classic jeans and a tee.
