Tremendous work goes into putting together a well executed fashion show; from preparing to host the vast numbers of VIPs, celebs and fashion icons, to organizing the models, styling the shows and conducting a rehearsal before the presentations, and everyone pulls their weight to make it happen. And there is no shortage of support staff and show goers to pack out the audience.
I had the pleasure of working behind the scenes with Aveda guest artist, Frank Rizzieri to hear and see first hand the concept and method of the style he created for the Tibi show.
Inspired by Amy Smilovic’s use of contrasting textures and textiles in the Spring/Summer 2020 Tibi collection, Frank was able to create a look along the same lines with the hair styling. Seen throughout the fashion designers runway shows, there is a trend of the wet/dry look combining a sleek, slick look on top with a wavy, full bodied taper through the ends.
Amy and Frank also added the throwback barrettes of the 90s playfully placed as a fun decorative spin. She said she wanted a way to keep individuality with each model’s hair. They placed the barrettes loosely on the sides and back of the styled hair to suggest the casual use.
Backstage, Frank gave me a tutorial on the step by step process to achieve this look and a run through of the Aveda product chosen to perfect it. The best part is that it’s a style that is easily reproducible for any hair type. Amy and Frank discussed making the hair style for this show individual for each model rather than being a uniform look.
Amy Smiovic, Tibi designer, described the look as a style you could do while you were sitting in class (in the 90s). Or as Frank Rizzieri called it, the “done, undone DIY look”. Frank is known for his lived in, natural and flexible hair which can be duplicated in everyday life. Add to that the modern, plant based and aromatherapy of Aveda’s versatile product line and you have a perfect combo for fashionable living.
Here’s what I learned from Frank about how to accomplish the contrasting textures on my own hair, even better that I get to try a fresh take with my Hairdreams extensions.
Starting at the top of the hair, Frank damped the hair and then blew it straight with a clean middle part using Aveda Speed of Light blow dry accelerator spray
Aveda’s Brilliant Retexurizing Gel helped to slick the top portion and hold it in place behind the ears. Next Aveda’s Abundance Hair Potion was applied to the back and ends of the hair to give it the contrasting full and natural wave. The look then set and finished with Aveda’s Control Force and Air control spray.
Tibi’s show was full of glamorous contrasts with flowing, shiny, matte, satiny, textures mixed in soft layers and draped for comfort. Neural earth tones and oversized futuristic footwear paired with girly 90s accessories gave it a youthful mood.
Even the nails by designer Jin Soon had contrasting notes of nude, lived in colors with a whimsical metal loop outlining each nail. She called it “Loopy Hoopy.”
British fashion council announced that the London Fashion week is now a city wide affair. So as I’m off to the airport, I’m taking full advantage of my newly found wet/dry look thanks to guest artist Frank.
