Ringing in the New Year just isn’t the same without a festive NYE outfit.
Like Christmas, keeping your fabrics and details high shine will keep you in the holiday spirit and ready to watch that ball drop in Times Square.
This still means you’ll want to highlight your outfit with fun metallics, feathers, velvet, silk, furs, and anything that gleams like diamonds or crystals. Embrace those over-the-top fancy pants and put aside any shyness for tonight. It’s time to shine!
If you want to keep your outfit super simple, read my holiday dress article or pick a jumpsuit (jumpsuits look pretty cute with mock neck blouses for layering).
However, if you want to stay warm while ringing in January 1st, choosing a dress or jumpsuit may not be your first choice in a cold climate. We want more fabric! Not less.
For keeping warm, choosing pants or heavy tights and boots will likely be preferable compared with a skimpy dress; especially if you’re party hopping outdoors or taking part in an outdoor venue.
I, for one, want to look great, no matter the weather. This takes some planning ahead, and perhaps a Christmas gift request from a loved one (hello new coat!). Something to consider: If you’re outside, your coat and earrings may actually be seen more than your actual outfit.
Whereas, if your party is indoors only, your coat can be an afterthought to your top.
Silver Bells
Whether outside or inside, this outfit has you covered. I would wear outfits like this for NYFW with some thick tights underneath my pants and I could stand the cold winter air just fine. For shoes, I would likely choose a comfortable block or wedge heel if I had to walk anywhere that taxis could be hard to find.
I haven’t personally tried on these particular Alice+Olivia pants, but you should know that all the A+O pants I own are meant to be worn with sky high heels and have the pant length to prove it. If you want an alternative pant, I think these would look great as well and they’re easier on the wallet.
For reference, I’m 5’7 and almost always get my A+O pants hemmed (or pinned up in a pinch) a bit because I don’t prefer higher than a 3.25” heel. I know A+O pants can get a bit pricey, but I can’t stress enough how much I love them–my legs look incredibly long and the bum looks pretty phenomenal if I do say so myself. Unless you’re petite, this brand is just amazing with their feminine fits.
Tip: When you go to a tailor or dry cleaner for a hem, bring the shoes with the height you normally plan to wear with your pants and hem your pants to that length. This will ensure your pants always look made for you.
Another option is a cropped length pant. These are always a great boot length, whether you are tall or short, as long as the top of the boot is covered by the pant leg.
Snowy NYE
This outfit was made for NYE, from the standout feather top to the Moschino Alarm Clock crossbody purse telling us to anticipate the midnight hour. Just leave a glass slipper and it’ll be like carrying the Cinderella tale with you. That said, I wouldn’t wear this outfit if you’re going to be outside in the cold for any length of time; strapless tops just do not add any warmth. For me, in Los Angeles, this outfit would be perfect, or if you have an indoor party.
Midnight Pajama Party
Juxtaposition is pretty important with this ‘cool girl’ look unless you want to look like you rolled out of bed wearing pajamas. I love taking a casual and trendy PJ look and transforming it into a chic anywhere outfit by dressing up everything else. This is the perfect house party look so you can lounge around looking stunning. Just don’t forget to play up your makeup and make sure your hair looks polished and frizz free. You can be bold with your jewelry, or dainty and minimalist–both will work here.
If you are feeling slightly out of your comfort zone with this look, remember you’re hanging out with friends at midnight and it’ll be nice to be cozy on the couch. 😉
My favorite part of this outfit is you’ll get a ton of use out of it–you can literally wear this anywhere. When you’re sick of the look, just turn your outfit into loungewear.
Sporty Spice
These fleece lined leggings are everything. When you’re gonna be outside, go sporty!
I have a couple faux fur Apparis jackets (in fact, I have this particular one) and I can say, they’ll keep you warm. Add the fleece leggings with the long length jacket and I think you’ll be able to handle most weather.
Outdoor tip: Buy these hand and feet warmers. I withstood negative temperatures with these fun little warmers. They really do work. Only downside is you’ll need to know how long you’ll be outside because they only last about 30 minutes. Needless to say, pack some extras in a bag!
If it were me, I would do this look with a Chanel crossbody and a flat strap, or, I just got a Senreve Maestra bag I’m obsessed with because you can wear it crossbody/backpack/handle style–so versatile for any occasion. Super well made and easy to wear. I put these ideas in the below assortment.
There you have it! If you’re looking for more ideas, check out my Christmas outfit post here.
