Jennifer Aniston once said, “If you don’t work out, eventually everything drops.” That made so much sense to me! We know this is true with our bodies, so why wouldn’t it be true for our faces?
Jennifer Aniston has long been a beauty care hero of mine ever since I read this article about her routine.

Since reading that article and starting my microcurrent journey, I have noticed my skin and muscles would start drooping when I forgot to use it.
So of course I had to find out who gives Jennifer Aniston (and Sandra Bullock, Margot Robbie…) her impressive electrical facials–none other than the “electrical aesthetician” and ZIIP founder Melanie Simon.
As a working mom, I can say, who has time to go for facials once a week anyway? Luckily Simon has us covered with her relatively new and updated beauty tool, the ZIIP Halo. Though it is a home microcurrent device, Simon uses it for her office facials as well.
So what is an electrical facial?
First off, microcurrent devices won’t make you say ouch–that’s where conductive gels come in. Second, an electrical facial uses electricity to do whatever you need it to–if you have the right frequency and contact with the skin that is. Using the right ZIIP routine can increase collagen, lift up the face (this treatment causes the muscles to contract and relax), shrink the pores, increase circulation, drain the lymphatic system, and even improve the skin tone–especially skin with acne and scars. At-home, needle-free facelift anyone?
Microcurrent: The muscle workout
Microcurrent is like a gentle electric power othat acts a bit like our body’s own electricity. Think of it as a magical facial workout that makes your muscles tighten up, which can make your skin look a bit tighter, brighter, and smoother. It also makes your blood flow better and helps your skin make more of the collagen and elastin that keeps it looking nice and young.
But Melanie Simon has more tricks up her sleeve because ZIIP Beauty locks in the benefits of microcurrent with the magic of nanocurrent, which has the added benefit of using negatively charged waveforms to produce negative ions for “problem skin.”
Nanocurrent: The skin gym
Nanocurrent is 1,000 times smaller than microcurrent (1 nanoamp is equal to 0.001 microamps). It’s like a whisper to our body’s cells to get back to regenerating our skin’s production of collagen at the cellular level. For you nerds out there, an ATP rat study can be viewed here.
ZIIP HALO device uses 900na-400μA, an unparalleled range of waveforms and intensities for an at-home device to stimulate collagen production, which comes with 26 different waveforms for each type of facial you’d like to do–each using the appropriate microcurrent and nanocurrent intensity for each part of the face.
Though I love microcurrent, I had stopped using my facial toning micro current device, NuFace Trinity facial toning device (comparison here), during and after my pregnancy. So when ZIIP Beauty asked me to try their product, I was excited for a fresh beauty device to add to my skincare routine. Of course, once I tried it, I can honestly say I’m never going back–nothing compares to the magic of microcurrent + ZIIP nanocurrent dual waveform technology.
ZIIP Beauty ZIIP Reviews: So what did I think?
My Skin type: Dry skin, reactive skin, sensitive skin
Texture issues: Large pores, age spots, dull skin, chicken pox scars on forehead, 11 lines
How often I used my ZIIP: About 3 times per week (Simon says use every other day for optimal results)
1 YEAR UPDATE!! See everything I’ve been doing in my update here.
First up, the skincare device itself. If you have reactive skin like me, beauty tools are always easier on the skin than more products. I can use all the products in the world, but without the tools, my skin would be a wreck.
With just around 3 times a week using the ZIIP app, I saw my skin get glowy, my rosacea and redness significantly reduced, the weak side of my face perk up, and the best part: Long term results. My facial muscles and skin actually looked best the morning after I did my targeted treatments. I wish I could show how much better I feel with naked skin and no makeup than the before and after photo, but it’s hard to capture on camera.
Nanocurrent technology is truly the gift that keeps on giving.
Which makes sense, considering Melanie says,
“It was almost an accident finding out that nanocurrent helps hyperpigmentation, I developed my way form for acne, and we started seeing all of these great results for hyperpigmentation as well….I noticed that people also felt their hyperpigmentation tingling during the problem solver/acne treatment. We actually did clinical studies on the problem solver treatment and almost everyone saw improvement in their hyperpigmentation. The reason I believe this works is because when you produce too much melanin which becomes melasma that also puts off a positive electrical charge the same way acne does and the problem solver treatment counteracts this with a negative charge.”
Though it’s nice that I can freestyle my treatments, the cherry on top of the ZIIP device is the app that comes with it, which is pre programmed to the “lift treatment” when you turn on your device. Melanie leads every single treatment by using the device on herself. Simply sync up the device and follow along, or sync up and go watch a show instead. But I’ll be honest, I’ve always followed Melanie since the results always feel just a little bit more when she’s guiding me via app. I love an at-home facial. I also found microcurrent lifts and tones best when combined with nanocurrent.
My favorite treatments so far are Founders Favorite, Problem Solver, Plump, and Brow Lift. This was a perfect stack of nanocurrent and microcurrent for my skin cells to perk up.
UPDATE: I just wrote about how to use ZIIP as a lip plumping tool here. Also, my year update has increased my upper lip volume overall, not just for 24 hours or even 72 hours. I’ve seen overall improvement with regular facial treatment of my upper lip.
The Gels were just as satisfying.
I was very surprised my reactive, sensitive skin responded very well to each one of the gels. While my favorite by far is the Silver Gel, I found them all to work for me.
When I was working on anti aging and wrinkles on my face and neck, I would use the golden gel, the silver gel when my skin needed calming, the crystal gel when I needed some glow, and the regular when I just needed a good conductive gel.
I love a routine that I can do at night so I’m not adding extra pressure in the mornings and I can really think about what ‘skin food’ I need.
Here’s a little about each one of the gels:
Electric Complex Gel
This is the gel that comes with the device. Simple, basic, but powerful. Don’t skip using a gel with the Halo. While I wouldn’t call this one a treatment, though a little bit hydrating with the Glycerin, it will allow the wavelengths to get their destination.
Silver Gel
By far the gel I gravitate to most. This one has Aloe Vera that soothes the skin, Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate, and crushed pearl to glow. My skin looks great afterwards, in fact, I would say my skin looks completely different 60 days later.
Crystal Gel
If you want Organic ingredients this one is great. I love the Glutathione since it’s very brightening, but I didn’t see a huge difference in my skin. I found the Aloe in the silver to be more soothing than the Veronica Flower in the crystal gel for soothing. Though it is very hydrating!
Golden Gel
Though my skin is red as a tomato after this gel, my skin looks amazing the next day and my fine lines are significantly reduced. As much as I prefer the Silver Gel for my every day, I loved the Golden gel for treatments once a week, despite the side effects for sensitive skin. I found that using Arcona’s Trial Pads afterwards to clean my face completely seemed to help calm my skin back down too, while still benefiting from all the peptides, 24-carat gold, and Hematite for strengthening. I would not call this mask calming though, despite the 24-carat gold claims.
I can honestly say I’ll be continuing to use this device for my microcurrent facials. But if I were to compare it to the Nuface device? I’ve compared the ZIIP and the Nuface Microcurrent devices here.

I have been using the ZIIP Halo for about a month now and love it! I have tried the different treatments on the app but mostly use the 4 minute pre-programmed treatment 4 times each week. Within the first two weeks of using the Halo my skin was much brighter. I am now also noticing smoother and firmer skin and some slight lifting around my eyes. And my face just feels so good after a treatment! I am 66 years old and have never had or wanted cosmetic surgery or botox, so the ZIIP Halo is a great addition to my skin care regimen. Thanks for reviewing the product!
