Healing wrinkles, pigmentation, and redness with just light? Too shocking to be believable, right? Let me introduce you to the Currentbody Red Light Therapy Mask Series 2. This tool boosts collagen so well that I even healed a deep kitten scratch in just 2 days (more on that wound healing below).
If you’re unfamiliar with red light LED devices (light-emitting diodes) all together, read this first. I’m no novice when it comes to red light. I have a full sheet, two wands, and a couple of led face masks for just about every light therapy treatment you can think of–even an infrared sauna blanket. Now, I’m excited to add a new wavelength to my LED light therapy masks collection: deep near-infrared light.

Disclaimer: After using several companies products, I asked if CurrentBody would be interested in partnering (scroll to the end of the post for discount codes). I have tried several of their tools with great results. After trying their new Series 2 mask, they asked me to share my opinion. Also, I am not a doctor, just sharing my own experience.
If you just want to know how the new Currentbody LED face mask light therapy compares to the old one, I’ll also go over the series 1 mask since I have both. So grab your favorite skincare snack (think avocado toast or adding collagen to your favorite smoothie), and let’s discuss why this LED mask might just make some of my other gadgets collect dust!
The Currentbody home LED mask, blends red LED Light, near-infrared (NIR), and deep NIR light. While its red and near infrared lights mirror those of the popular Omnilux mask and the Series 1 Currentbody mask, it’s the inclusion of deep NIR that truly sets this mask apart.

30 Days with the Currentbody RLT Mask
Who’s it for?
All skin types can benefit long term from this home device unless you have a condition such as photosensitivity. If you tend to be red, consider the Dermalux so you can see which color treatment options works best for you.
How Often Did I Use it?
For the sake of this experiment, I used it every day for 30 days. However, the treatment protocol says you only need it 3-5 times weekly for 10 minutes per treatment.
While the benefits of using this light therapy device daily are undeniable, it’s essential to approach any skincare tool with care. Our skin has a microbiome that thrives on variety, and following usage instructions is crucial. Most guidelines recommend against daily use to prevent the skin from becoming too reliant on the device. Adding the mask into a balanced skincare routine, complemented by traditional facials or tools, can optimize results.
I have heard many board certified dermatologists recommend treating yourself to a professional facial about once a month to keep your skin fresh.
Comparing Series 1 and Series 2
Having used both the Series 1 and Series 2 Currentbody masks, I can attest to the noticeable differences in performance and comfort. The Series 2 boasts 104 additional lights compared to its predecessor, resulting in faster and more effective outcomes. They also added a chin strap for extra coverage on the lower face. Perfect for keeping that turkey neck at bay!
Furthermore, the design enhancements—including double straps and silicone eye molds—improve comfort during use, allowing for multitasking without compromising on results. When my goal was to brighten my under-eye area, I chose not to use the molds. Instead, I kept my eyes closed to allow the light to do its work.
Lastly, they now test each and every mask with Veritace and include a traceability card in each box. I liked seeing that each wavelength was performance tested for exceptional quality control. The company sent me some BTS footage on how they test and it’s an extra step that’s worth every penny.
Results
After a month of using the mask, I can confidently say it delivered on its promises. Age spots have begun to fade, my wrinkles have remained manageable, although I still occasionally rely on my radio frequency device for deeper lines on my forehead and between my brows and ZIIP for toning my facial muscles.
My skin is noticeably brighter and less inflamed, and the persistent redness I once experienced has diminished significantly. This mask is particularly effective for skin conditions like rosacea, offering relief and improvement in texture.
For those in their 20s and 30s, I believe that consistent use of this mask could suffice as a primary skincare tool, especially for those without significant fine lines.
Why Deep NIR is the game changer
Deep NIR light operates at a wavelength of 1072nm, penetrating the skin more profoundly than standard red and NIR wavelengths in most face masks. This depth of penetration translates to significant benefits for the skin.
1. Stimulates Collagen Production
One of the standout benefits of deep NIR light is stimulating the production of collagen. Collagen encourages fibroblasts to produce more of this vital protein, deep NIR light effectively sends a message to your skin to give you a firmer and more youthful complexion without any harsh products or surgery.
2. Enhances Circulation
Improved blood flow is another remarkable advantage of NIR light. The increased circulation acts like a dance party for your blood vessels, ensuring that your skin cells receive an abundance of nutrients and oxygen. This enhanced delivery system not only revitalizes your skin but also promotes overall skin health.
3. Reduces Inflammation
Inflammation can wreak havoc on the skin, causing issues such as redness and uneven texture. Deep NIR light has anti-inflammatory properties to calm irritated skin for a clearer, more glass-like complexion.
4. Accelerates Skin Repair and Healing
While I was testing, my adorable little kitten scratched my delicate eye area. Traditionally, I would expect such an injury to take a week or two to heal. However, after using the Currentbody mask, I noticed significant healing within just two days. A week later, there was no evidence of the scratch—an impressive feat for needle-like kitten claws that slice deeply.
5. Boosts Hydration
Some studies suggest that NIR light may assist in maintaining or improving skin hydration levels. This translates to a plumper, more radiant appearance, as hydrated skin reflects light beautifully.
Is it worth the upgrade?
I’ve been checking out some of the other face masks on the market and I think the Currentbody RLT mask with deep NIR light represents a significant leap forward from the rest. Its ability to stimulate collagen production, enhance circulation, reduce inflammation, even out skin tone and promote healing makes it an essential addition to any skincare regimen. Just imagine using this after a microneedling session! Or your full body!
In a market saturated with red light therapy masks, the new Currentbody RLT mask stands out, proving that sometimes, the future of skincare truly is a light in the dark.
