I admit it, I am guilty of a beauty atrocity. I know it’s hard to believe but I have been using the same old, dare I say, cheap, drugstore blow dryer for 10 years. The problem wasn’t that the motor gave out which is why I’ve had it for so long. No, the problem is that it’s an inefficient tool.
Not only is it painfully slow but worst of all it is continually causing heat damage and making it impossible to reduce frizz to my hair. It didn’t matter how many heat protectant products I put in my hair, because it took so long to blow-dry!
On some days it was better to go with bed head then deal with this cycle. Or just not get out of bed at all, haha. But of course this is not usually possible. So thankfully I think I’ve found my answer with this new Korean tool and I had to do a hair dryer review on my amazing find.
I’m starting my quest to add some years to my life with faster drying blowdryers because one can’t have too many tools in one’s toolbox–don’t you agree? And let’s be real for a moment, there are so many kinds. There are ionic generator blowdryers, lightweight blowdryers, ceramic blowdryers, infrared heat dryers, high wattage hair dryers, dyson supersonic hair dryer, tourmaline hairdryers, techy dryers…the list goes on and on!
Allure says these are the top 10, but I think they missed a big one. Quite possibly because Amika has only been around since 2007. However, they’ve made a big impact with Amika’s The Immortal’s high tech Korean motor that lasts for 10,000 hours of drying time…that’s about my entire life…and then some of my future kids lives too.
Since it only takes me about five minutes to blowout my hair now, when you put that in perspective, you could technically will it to your children. The sticker shock of $300 turns into pennies pretty quickly.
I’m an immediate fan because I have naturally curly hair and I hate frizz which is impossible to avoid with air dry. With this drying process you can get tons of volume by drying your hair halfway, and finishing with an ionic technology shine by using the concentrator nozzle, diffuser attachment at the end. It also only weighs in at one pound and can go up to 450 degrees for a super sleek, frizz free look. This includes multiple heat and speed settings for all hair types.
One hairstyle I never could get right with my old hairdryer was a ponytail, because I want volume at the crown/roots and perfectly smooth ends. With “The Immortal” in hand, fast dry has become so easy.

Between the ease and fullness of my Hairdreams Extensions coupled with the efficiency and quickness of The Immortal, I am much more likely to accept that last minute opening event. Knowing I can take a shower and be ready to go with a fantastic hairdo within a reasonable amount of time makes all the difference.
For hair care products that keep your hair in top shape with the blow dry process, Amika has some “must have” top sellers. Brooklyn Bombshell Blowout Spray which goes on with an ultra lightweight mist. For days that hair frizz is taking over, try Blockade, Heat Defense Serum. And finish with a flexible hold, Fluxus Touchable Hair Spray.
Hair dryer glossary of terms:
- Ionic hair dryers emit negative ions which breaks up the positive ions in the water or the hair products on your hair causing it to dry faster. Another perk is that the negarive ions work to seal the cuticles of the hair reducing frizz
- Ceramic blow dryers are designed to better distribute the heat reducing frizz and dry time.
- Much the same tourmaline hair dryers get hotter more quickly thus reducing drying time and cutting down on damage to hair.
The following is the above mentioned list of the top 10 from Allure’s Best of Hair Dryers recent index (actually the complete list is the Best of Beauty top 20):
- Harry Josh Pro Tools Pro Dryer 2000
- Revlon’s Blow Out Tool winner of the Allure Best of Beauty Award 2019
- Harry Josh Pro Tools Ultra Light Pro Dryer
- Kristen Ess Iconic Style Professional Blow Dryer
- T3 Cura Luxe Hair Dryer
- Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer
- DevaCurl Dryer and DevaFuser
- GHD Air Hair Dryer

Most of these dryers look like futuristic models of alien weapons with various attachments. Also, most will run you a few hundred dollars however, I always say, if it’s something you’ll use everyday then…….
